Harishchandragad is said to be from 6th century during the rule of Kalachari dynasty.The fort is ancient, proves of microlithic man have been found here Ancient scriptures (vedh puranas) like Matsyapurana,Agnipurana and Skandapurana include many descriptions about the fort.
Their are cliffs named as Taramati and Rohidas,they have no connection with Ayodhya. Their are caves which has carvings of lord Vishnu which are made in 11th century.In 14th century sage changdev used to meditate here.
Their are various cultural diversities in the surrounding of the fort based on the various constructions on the fort.The fort is built in medieval period based on the carvings of temples of Nageshwar in Harishchandreshwar temple and is related to Shiva,Shakta or Naath. Marathas captured the fort in 1747 from the Mughals.

It takes around 5-6 hrs from the base village Khireshwar.

Any time you can visit the fort.But it is said that you will enjoy the fort only in monsoon and winter as their is great atmosphere to trek at this time. 

Water Availability
Yes,water is available on the fort near Ganesh caves.In summer and winter lemon water and buttermilk is sold between Tolar khind and Harishchandreshwar by local villagers.

Accommodation Availability 
Ganesh caves where around 50 peoples can stay in this cave and 9 other caves are also on the fort where around 100 peoples can even stay.

Harishchandragad is the one of the famous treks in Maharashtra and hence it is trekked by many trekkers around 'Maharashtra','Kokan Kada' which is the cliff from which gives the view whole of Kokan and much more,kedareshwar caves it is most interesting spot on the fort after kokan kada,Taramati peak it is second highest peak in Maharashtra and much more.
Kedareshwar Caves 
Kedareshwar cave where idol of 'Shiva Linga' is made local legends hold that when the fourth pillar of the linga breaks,the world come to an end.the caves have ice cold water throughout the year and in rainy season it is very hard to access this place as this place is filled with water.

Konkan Kada
It is the best place on this one can visit or it is also said every trekker should see this cliff before dying.This cliff is faced to Konkan from which the whole of konkan can be seen from this place and whole of the region.This cliff almost looks like an cobras hood it has been created for many days by wind cutting the rock from ages.A rainbow is seen from this cliff once in a while when there is a mist or fog in this region.Cloud burst is also the phenomenon one can see on this fort.
 Taramati Peak
Taramati peak it is second highest peak in Maharashtra with an height of 1429 meters this place is also known as Taramati point from here one spot whole of and surrounding areas.places such as fort 'Siddhagad' near 'Bhimashankar' to the south, Napta twin peaks, Ghodishep(865 meters), Ajobagad (1375 meters), Kulang fort (1471 meters)in the north it can be captured by panoramic view.

Pune to Harishchandragad Fort  
Their is a bus running daily from Shivaji nagar, to Khireshwar village(Harishchandragad) and walk 7 
kms to reach the foot hills of the fort.
Pune - Khireshwar village(126 kms)-walk 7 kms to foothill of Harishchandragad.  

Note
It is advised to ask to the villagers for the correct route to the fort as the route to the fort most confusing and one can easily loose his way to the fort.  

Mumbai to Harishchandragad Fort
At Kalyan bus stand their is bus service on the route to Ahemadnagar get down at Khubi Phata,take private vehicle or bus to Khireshwar village,their onwards it is about 7 kms from foot hills of Harishchandragad.

Umbrella falls is located behind Wilson Dam and whereas the Randha falls is located on the Pravara river both are the famous tourist spots and Randha falls is 170 ft.The best time to visit this falls is during the monsoon most of the time it has no water or doesn't exist.
